Sandalwood

S C E N T  P R O F I L E

Sandalwood - an incredibly popular fragrance with luxurious, woody and rich notes - is a classic scent used in aromatherapy, perfumes and, here at Simply Drawer Liners & The Master Herbalist, in our own products.

Sandalwood Essential Oil is derived from the roots and wood of the Sandalwood tree (Santalum album or Indian Sandalwood): a small, tropical tree that grows up to heights of 10 metres. With large, leathery leaves and flowers blooming in rich hues of yellow and red, the tree thrives in many environments from luscious valleys to dry mountainsides. Most varieties of the tree, however, are native to India, Australia and Hawaii.

The oil is obtained through the separation process of steam distillation, although the wood has to be at least twenty-five years old before it is ready for this. The result is a fresh, versatile fragrance that’s perfect for a spicy winter perfume or a deep and musky summer scent.

Normally found in products such as soaps, candles and incense, Sandalwood is also sacred to some religions and there are cultures that highly celebrate its fragrant and medicinal qualities. In folk medicine, it is often used to treat maladies such as the common cold, fever and bronchitis and in Aromatherapy, Sandalwood is thought to soothe, release tension and even restore inner peace of mind.

At Simply Drawer Liners & The Master Herbalist, you can find our Sandalwood fragranced drawer liners in three designs - a William Morris floral print in black, a barley gingham and a traditional floral pattern - or pick the scent up in one of our wardrobe fresheners.
